Direct Mail for Law Firms
Targeted and saturation mail programs handled from list to mailbox.
Direct mail is uncrowded in exactly the moment when digital is saturated. A well built piece lands in a household with no competing advertisement on the page, it stays on the counter for days, and in several practice areas it reaches people at a moment that search never will.
We handle the entire program: list, design, copy, print, postal paperwork and drop scheduling, with tracking that ties a response back to the mail piece that produced it.
Targeted lists versus saturation mail
Every Door Direct Mail covers whole postal routes at the lowest possible cost per piece. It suits practices where nearly any household is a plausible client, such as estate planning in an older neighborhood or a general consumer practice building name recognition around a new office.
Targeted mail costs more per piece and wastes far less. Lists can be built from homeowner status, age band, household income, new movers, recent business filings, or public records where your jurisdiction permits their use for solicitation. For most firms the targeted route produces a better cost per signed matter even at a higher unit cost.
What we mail
Format follows purpose. Oversized postcards are cheap to test and good for offers with a deadline. Letters in plain envelopes get opened at a much higher rate and suit sensitive practice areas where a postcard on the counter is a privacy problem. Newsletters and seminar invitations work well for estate planning and elder law audiences.
Every piece carries a distinct tracking phone number and a short vanity URL pointing at a landing page, so response is measured rather than assumed.
- Concept, copy and design produced in house
- List sourcing, deduplication and address validation
- Print and postage managed, including EDDM paperwork
- Call tracking number and dedicated landing page per drop
Compliance is the part that ends careers
Attorney solicitation by mail is regulated closely, and several states require specific labeling, filing copies with the bar, or waiting periods after an incident before contact is permitted. Rules on mailing to people involved in a recent accident or arrest are especially strict and vary by jurisdiction.
We build to your state's requirements and route every piece to your firm for approval before it prints. Where a jurisdiction prohibits an approach, we say so rather than working around it.
Measuring a mail campaign honestly
Mail response arrives over weeks, not hours, and a meaningful share of it shows up as a search for your firm name rather than a call to the tracked number. We measure the tracked responses, watch for lift in branded search and direct traffic in the drop window, and hold judgment until enough of the response curve has arrived.
We recommend testing at a meaningful volume in one area rather than spreading a small budget across a metro, because a thin drop produces numbers too noisy to learn from.
Frequently asked questions
- Does direct mail still work for law firms?
- In the right practice areas, yes. Estate planning, elder law, probate, bankruptcy and consumer practices routinely see it perform, largely because so few competitors are mailing anymore.
- What response rate should we expect?
- Saturation mail typically runs a fraction of one percent, while a well targeted list to a relevant audience can run several times that. What matters is cost per signed matter, not response rate, and we model that with you before the first drop.
- How many pieces do we need to mail?
- Enough to read the result. In most markets that means several thousand pieces per drop and at least two or three drops to the same audience, because response climbs with repetition.
- Can you mail to people involved in a recent accident or arrest?
- Only where your jurisdiction allows it, and only after any required waiting period, with the labeling and bar filing your state requires. Several states restrict this heavily and some prohibit it, and we follow those rules exactly.
